A new inquiry that has just been launched by the International Agreements Sub-Committee of the House of Lords, chaired by Lord Goldsmith. As part of its role scrutinising the UK Government’s negotiation of new treaties, the Committee has launched an inquiry into the UK-Japan trade deal negotiations, and the potential opportunities and challenges for the UK, and the UK’s intended goals in negotiating.

The Committee is interested in how a deal might affect people, businesses and organisations across the UK (inc. UK in Japan) in every area being negotiated, including issues relating to the automotive, digital, agriculture and food sectors. A detailed list of questions the Committee is interested in is available on our website, along with guidance about how to contact the Committee.

The deadline for initial submissions is 31 August, but the Call for Evidence will remain open after this date. Those who make submissions may be contacted later in the inquiry to invite them to provide further submissions as negotiations progress. We would be grateful if you could share this information with others who may have an interest in this area. Please do not hesitate to contact [email protected] if you have any questions about this inquiry.
