By the close of the British Business Awards 2024 (#BBA2024) nomination period, we received 44 eligible nominations across 6 categories, showcasing a wide range of talent and innovation.

In the newly announced BBA Outstanding Contribution category, the following 6 nominees are now in contention for the prestigious trophy. 

 

BBA 2024 Outstanding Contribution 

“This special Outstanding Contribution award honours an individual(s) who has significantly impacted their field, exemplifying excellence and effectiveness in supporting UK-Japan commercial and/or cultural relations over the past 12 months. This award celebrates a nominee’s exceptional achievements in fostering collaboration, innovation, and mutual understanding between the UK and Japan.”

 

 

BBA 2024 Outstanding Contribution Nominees

Professor Christopher Dowson 

Antibiotic resistance is a global issue needing global solutions. Professor Dowson, with support from the Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation, has established the ‘Dame Sally Davies’ and ‘Mr Yasuhisa Shiozaki’ fellowships. Alongside NCGM, GRIPS, UK, and Japan partners, they will create new relationships between academia, industry, and government, train future leaders, rebuild antimicrobial discovery, and aid Japan’s new CDC.

 

 

Claire Fletcher 

The inimitable Founding Headmistress at Phoenix House, has enjoyed a productive three years, successfully launching and leading a new British Prep school in the heart of the city. Pupils and parents have been impressed by the rigorous British academic standards and enrichment opportunities on offer – not to mention the kindness and confidence on display.

 

 

Shinichi Shimakawa and Hiroyuki Misaka 

Shinichi Shimakawa won Japan’s first Paralympic gold medal in wheelchair rugby, while Hiroyuki Misaka supported as a Chairman of the Asian Paralympic Committee. The joint effort of the nominees, who work for a UK financial institution, made it possible, supporting one another. The success was recognised by the CEO in UK for inspiring UK colleagues.

 

 

Micah Styles 

Building on its collaboration with Japan House London, BLR WORLD has cemented its position as a catalyst for UK-Japan relations. Under the leadership of Founder & CEO Micah Styles, the team has continued to push boundaries and, as a key player in the highly anticipated Expo 2025 in Osaka, they are poised to redefine what it means to bridge cultures through a powerful synthesis of people, creativity and innovation.

 

 

Joseph Tame 

Having spent a decade building up his creative agency Wild Tame to serve major clients in Japan, the UK, the US and beyond, in the past year Joseph has invested significant time and resources in giving back to the community, supporting the PR and social awareness activities of Tokyo-based NPOs with strong links to the international community.

 

 

Taisuke Yokota 

This nomination is in recognition of Taisuke Yokota’s support of Wajima in light of the earthquake on Jan 1. Taisuke has coordinated 4 missions to the region with the goals of raising awareness, raising financial support and showcasing the ‘soul of Wajima’, all whilst bringing together opportunities to bolster UK-Japan tourism and trade.
