As the BCCJ’s reach continues to expand across territories, we welcome the University of Manchester East Asia Centre as a valued addition to our community.
The University of Manchester East Asia Centre was established in Hong Kong in 1992 as the first overseas campus of the University of Manchester. As the only Russell Group university with a centre in East Asia, the Centre offers blended learning, part-time Master’s degrees for professional, corporate managerial executives and entrepreneurs based in East Asia. In addition, the Centre collaborates with start-ups, corporates, NGOs and government units in the region to provide Talent and Impact Scholarship Scheme, executive training and stackable micro-credential lifelong learning opportunities. Today, the East Asia Centre is part of a global network of five University of Manchester campuses (Hong Kong, Singapore, Shanghai, Dubai, and Manchester).

One of the keynote programmes offered is the Manchester Global MBA, which is offered by the Alliance Manchester Business School – ranked among the top 1% business school globally. The School has been accredited by three prestigious bodies: AACSB International, AMBA and EQUIS.
With over 8,000 alumni spanning 35 industries and 20 nationalities, students have the chance to visit other international network comprising five hubs – Manchester, Dubai, Singapore and Shanghai where their network knows no boundaries but the globe. This is a trusted place for aspired transnational leaders to gain confidence, credibility and practical, world-class knowledge.
The Manchester Global MBA can be completed in as short as 18 months and is designed to provide working professional with a fresh perspective that challenges conventional thinking. The programme encourages MBA students to rethink the world in a new way, redefining what it means to be a leader. The learning experience is reflective, adaptable, and applicable. It empowers the students to navigate and influence today’s complex geo-political and global landscape with confidence and purpose.

Why did you join the BCCJ?
The University of Manchester East Asia Centre supports executives from Japan in the pursuit of postgraduate higher education. On average, the Manchester Global MBA delivered at the East Asia Centre recruits 30% of its executives from Japan. Consequently, over three decades, the centre has developed a strong Japan-based alumni community and consistently strives to improve experiences after graduation, including providing connections to wider corporate networks.

What do you most hope to gain from your time as a member?
Broadened networks are essential for connecting opportunities for our alumni and students. At the same time, the centre’s membership also aims to connect other senior executives to opportunities for international postgraduate blended learning from a prestigious and globally ranked university.
What makes your organisation unique in your industry or market?
The University of Manchester is the ONLY Russell Group UK university in East Asia and has five global locations including Hong Kong. As such, it offers exceptional opportunities for East Asia executives to access high-quality international experiences and postgraduate blended learning.
What recent achievements or milestones are you most proud of?
The University of Manchester recently celebrated its 200th anniversary in 2024 and the Alliance Manchester Business School celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2025.
2025 has been a productive year for the University. The QS World University Rankings continued to rank the University as a leading global institution (ranked #35 globally). Concurrently, the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings ranked the University as #1 in Europe and #2 globally for the third year running for its commitment to addressing the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
To add, out new Vice-President, Professor Duncan Ivison, has recently announced a 10-year strategy aimed at enhancing our global impact and driving innovation in education, research and student experience.
What kind of collaborations or connections are you most interested in building through the BCCJ?
The Centre is eager to explore event collaborations with the BCCJ to strengthen the connection between our two communities. We aim to build mutual trust and establish long-term partnerships that create meaningful value and growth opportunities for both our students, alumni and BCCJ members. While our alumni may gain new opportunities through connections with BCCJ Chamber members, we also look forward to engaging with senior executives within the BCCJ and introducing them to the international postgraduate blended learning opportunities offered by our prestigious, globally ranked university.
