The British Chamber of Commerce in Japan (BCCJ) welcomes Gordon Brothers Japan to our expansive membership base. As leading global asset experts, Gordon Brothers Japan offers an extensive array of asset related services as well as lending & financing and trading. In their words, 'your partner through strategic change.'

Since 1903, businesses have trusted Gordon Brothers to maximise liquidity and asset values by providing the people, expertise and capital to solve business challenges. Through our firm’s comprehensive offering, we deliver integrated, custom solutions across the asset lifecycle all under one platform.

Asset Services

Gordon Brothers is the largest global appraiser serving finance industry professionals and company stakeholders. More than a century of asset realisation across the retail and industrial sectors and the world’s largest proprietary asset recovery database with over 10 million asset sale values help us deliver the precision and accuracy that support our clients.

Operating over 30 offices throughout North America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia Pacific, our global footprint of valuation services experts allows rapid mobilisation to deliver accurate valuations by local professionals.

Asset Lending & Financing

Gordon Brothers rapidly delivers creative solutions up and down the capital stack for companies throughout the business lifecycle.

We lend against and invest directly in inventory, receivables, machinery, equipment, brands and other assets, both together and individually, to provide clients liquidity solutions beyond our market-leading disposition and appraisal services.

Gordon Brothers provides flexible asset-based debt solutions from traditional first-in, last-out facilities, revolving lines of credit and revolving FILOs that compliment capital structure participants by leveraging our asset expertise to lend deeper into the collateral and enhance risk mitigation.

Asset Trading

As active partners, we deploy specialised expertise to help business owners, operators, advisers and lenders maximise cash flow from unwanted or underperforming assets, generating greater liquidity and flexibility.

We provide customised asset solutions on behalf of our clients, with guaranteed outcomes. Alongside upfront capital for asset purchases, our solutions enable stakeholders to put assets to their highest and best use while converting them into efficient capital.

Industrial

Gordon Brothers specialises in delivering comprehensive, creative solutions while navigating complex situations, including multi-jurisdictional transactions.

Our deep asset expertise across the full spectrum of industrial assets enables us to provide holistic, end-to-end solutions, including turnkey asset sales, that maximise the value of each asset, unlocking greater liquidity within accelerated timeframes.

We provide financial certainty through financial and operational guarantees and leverage decades of data from our proprietary machinery and equipment asset database, built on thousands of valuations.

We provide valuations, short- and long-term capital, and asset purchase and sales solutions across a wide range of asset categories, including:

  • Machinery and equipment
  • Manufacturing centres
  • Marine assets
  • Transportation assets
  • Construction assets
  • Power generation assets
  • Inventory

Retail & Consumer Products

For decades, Gordon Brothers has developed bespoke solutions for complex inventory disposition challenges. Our experienced team of merchants, operators and finance professionals provides hands-on support to assess stores and inventory directly.

We maximise liquidity and recovery value from retail inventory during:

  • Full or partial restructuring of store networks
  • Store closures or relocations
  • Country or market exits
  • Mergers and acquisitions (M&A) integration
  • In-store inventory clearance events
  • Disposition of surplus stock

We partner with our clients to maintain brand integrity, protect customer goodwill, and allow them to focus on their core business while achieving stronger operational and financial outcomes.

Introducing Senior Managing Director, Ian Carr

'Originally from the UK and having worked globally with Gordon Brothers, I joined our Japan office last year as Head of Retail. Gordon Brothers provides asset valuation, ABL financing and restructuring solutions, supporting clients across retail and industrial sectors. We are looking forward to building long term relationships and engaging with BCCJ members, as well as contributing practical insights to the market'

Introducing Managing Director, Takamori Ushiroda

'With nearly three decades of experience in corporate banking, turnaround finance, and asset-based lending, I lead the development of Gordon Brothers Japan’s capital solutions business. Having spent several years in Germany earlier in my career, I bring a cross-border perspective to Japanese financing situations and work closely with Gordon Brothers’ global teams to support companies, sponsors, and financial institutions with practical asset-based capital solutions. My focus is on helping clients use receivables, inventory and other business assets to support acquisitions, carve-outs, restructuring and business transformation.'

Why did you join the BCCJ?

We provide integrated solutions combining asset valuation, disposition, and asset-based lending, particularly in situations involving business wind-downs, retail store closures, or complex financing needs where access to local bank funding is limited.

What recent achievements or milestones are you most proud of?

We have expanded our presence in Japan’s ABL market and successfully supported cross-border transactions, particularly involving non-Japanese companies facing financing or restructuring challenges.

What kind of collaborations or connections are you most interested in building through the BCCJ?

We are particularly interested in connecting with companies in retail and manufacturing sectors, as well as advisors and investors involved in restructuring, turnaround, and cross-border situations.
