New Member: A2Lab (Tutor Japan)
The British Chamber of Commerce in Japan (BCCJ) welcomes A2Lab (Tutor Japan) to our expansive membership base. Tutor Japan is a tutoring and educational support agency based in Tokyo, Japan that offers tailored educational services to students and families at international schools in Japan and overseas. Tutor Japan's qualified staff support students ages 3-18 with academic tutoring, and assist families seeking admissions support in both English and Japanese.
Tutor Japan was founded in 2020 by CEO Asami Akiyama to support the tight-knit community of families attending international schools in Tokyo. Beginning with domestic admissions support and academic tutoring, Tutor Japan has now expanded to support admissions to schools around the world, including applications to British boarding schools. Because of Tutor Japan’s close community, staff can build relationships with families for detailed and personalized support.
Academic support
Tutor Japan provides specialized academic support for students learning from various international curricula, including (i)GCSE, IB, AP, and A-levels. Tutors assist students with daily homework, writing, and vocabulary, and with tutoring in various targeted academic subjects, such as math and science, to develop their skills more effectively. Lessons are offered online, or in-person at our office or the student’s home to support the needs of our students on their academic journey.
International school admissions consulting
Tutor Japan offers comprehensive admissions support to families applying to international schools. Especially with the overwhelming amount of information available online, navigating the application process can be challenging. Tutor Japan steps in to help families with application assistance, interview preparation, and child screening test preparation. We are proud of our experience of successful admission support to international schools all across Japan, and in other countries, such as Dubai and England.
UK boarding school support
In recent years, many families are seeking support in preparation for entering boarding schools in the UK. Tutor Japan offers personalized consultations for entry into elite UK boarding schools, as well as services including school search, arranging school tours, managing communication with the admissions office, registration and application, and coordinating academic entrance exams. Tutor Japan breaks down the complicated admission timelines and keeps each family’s application on track to ensure that each child is fully prepared. Our most recent partnership with British guardianship agencies allows us to fully support your family from beginning to end in providing a smooth transition towards life in the UK.
Overseas summer programs
In addition to entry into full-time international and boarding schools, Tutor Japan has several overseas partnerships with summer programs for students to gain more experience in international environments. Our current partners offer international programs in the UK, Italy, Canada, and Malta. Students of all ages can enjoy engaging summer programs, and get to know first-hand what it’s like to study abroad while making new friends from different countries and cultures. Summer programs are an excellent opportunity for students, especially those interested in boarding school, to level up their English skills and to try out new activities through extracurricular options while living away from family.

Why did you join the BCCJ?
Tutor Japan joined the BCCJ to provide educational resources to members of the British Chamber and to share specialized expertise about international schools and boarding schools in Japan and in the UK. As a member, we would like to connect with the Chamber’s wide network to match families and individuals with study abroad opportunities.
What do you most hope to gain from your time as a member?
We hope that Tutor Japan can grow further into an educational resource for those seeking academic support and counseling. Backed with years of experience, Tutor Japan strives to support the educational needs of families, ensuring a seamless transition for those navigating the complexities of international schooling and the British curriculum. Additionally, we aspire to share our expertise with corporate HR members to introduce our services to company employees. What makes your organisation unique in your industry or market?
Our dedicated team is able to offer hands-on, tailored support in both Japanese and English, and to respond flexibly to each individual family’s needs. Tutor Japan is experienced in offering academic support across various curricula, including (i)GCSE, IB, AP, and A-levels. Most of our tutors are international school graduates, who can share their personal experiences with the different curricula, including expert test advice. We also offer admission test preparation directly to match with each school’s testing style.
What recent achievements or milestones are you most proud of?
Our recent milestones include multiple new certifications and partnerships. Firstly, we have acquired new agent certifications to expand our connections with overseas certified academic institutions. This lets us continue to provide excellent service to all our clients.
Furthermore, Tutor Japan is now recognized as an official notarized translator between Japanese and English, which means we can provide full support for translating official documents for the application process. Finally, we have also expanded our connections to include guardianship agencies and online schools to provide support for students wherever they live and study.
What kind of collaborations or connections are you most interested in building through the BCCJ?
Through our connections with the BCCJ, we hope to build relationships with families moving to Japan to help them settle in, and to connect them with educational institutions here. For those families who decide to move back overseas, we can also support their school choice and research for schools abroad. In addition, we hope to build deeper connections with international schools in Tokyo, including newer schools. We also want to connect with other professional service firms with high-end clients looking for specialized academic advice and services.
