The BCCJ is delighted to welcome Mariko Okawa as the newest member of our team!
As Operations Manager at the BCCJ, Mariko plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the Chamber’s daily operations. Her responsibilities include managing administrative processes, overseeing membership data, and supporting the Executive team in achieving strategic goals. Additionally, Mariko is dedicated to delivering high-quality service to members, contributing to a responsive and well-managed organisation that meets the evolving needs of the BCCJ’s diverse community.
Born and raised in Kyoto, Mariko earned her PhD in Modern British History from the University of St Andrews and brings with her a unique cross-cultural understanding, having lived in the UK for a decade. This experience enables her to bridge British and Japanese cultural contexts, facilitating smooth cross-cultural interactions within the Chamber.
With extensive experience in PA and administrative roles, along with a longstanding commitment to Rotary International’s philanthropic activities, Mariko is well-positioned to enhance the Chamber’s operations and its positive impact on society at local, national, and international levels.
Reflecting on her new role, Mariko shares, “I am honoured to join the BCCJ, especially as I continue my commitment to strengthening UK-Japan relations. Working alongside a talented team, I look forward to optimising our operational processes to enable the Executive Director and team to achieve tangible results. I am also excited to get to know and support BCCJ members, ensuring that they feel valued and connected within this vibrant business community.”
With optimism and a realistic outlook, Mariko is committed to making the BCCJ an even stronger force for the UK-Japan relationship and to contributing positively to global society. We are very excited to have her here with us and hope you get the chance to welcome her in person at a BCCJ event soon!
