Position: BCCJ Communications & Digital Marketing Lead
Location: Tokyo, Japan (hybrid)
Reports to: BCCJ Executive Director
Employment Term: Immediate start (one year contract with the possibility of renewal).
Hours: Full-time. Normal working hours will be between 9:00am-5:00pm Monday to Friday, and will include occasional early morning and evening work. Total number of working hours each month will average out to around 40 hours per week.
Language: English (Japanese proficiency a plus, strong British interest desired).
Salary: To be negotiated, will depend on qualification and experience.

About the Role

The Communications & Digital Marketing Lead will oversee the BCCJ’s digital presence and communications output, playing a key role in raising the profile of the Chamber and its members. This role involves producing timely, engaging content across web, social media, email, and print, while ensuring consistency in tone and messaging. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the BCCJ team and membership to keep the community informed and connected, and will contribute to event promotion and delivery. The role also includes mentoring and managing a small team of interns and volunteers to support communications activities and member engagement.

 

 

Key Responsibilities

1. Content Creation & Member Promotion

  • Produce high-quality, timely content across all BCCJ channels (email, social media, website) that reflects Chamber activities, member initiatives and relative UK-Japan news.

  • Work closely with BCCJ member companies to support their visibility through articles, spotlights, interviews, and features.

  • Design visual assets and create multimedia (videos, posters, graphics) that align with BCCJ branding and campaign goals.

  • Regularly update social media channels to reflect the Chamber’s human-centric values and voice.

 

2. Digital Strategy, Web Management and Marketing

  • Oversee the day-to-day content updates and long-term strategy for the BCCJ website.

  • Ensure all web content is SEO-optimised, visually engaging, and user-friendly.

  • Monitor analytics to drive performance improvements and audience growth.

  • Work with Events Manager to ensure all events are marketed in a timely manner.

 

3. Communications

  • Respond efficiently and appropriately to BCCJ members’ and external enquiries.

  • Manage external communications, including weekly e-newsletters, press release uploads and engagements with Chamber partners.

  • Maintain regular communication with interns and stakeholder institutions, ensuring smooth coordination and effective support. This will also include management and delegation of intern tasks.

 

4. Campaigns & Major Projects

  • Lead communications planning and creative for flagship events and campaigns such as the British Business Awards and Expo 2025 Osaka.
  • Collaborate across the team and relevant stakeholders to deliver unified campaign messaging.

 

Skills & Experience

  • 2-5 years of experience in communications, marketing, or digital content production.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Understanding of SEO and CMS tools and ability to trouble-shoot website relates issues. 
  • Experience or willingness to learn a variety of SaaS tools.
  • Organised, proactive, and able to manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team and build positive relationships with members and external partners.
  • Competency in Adobe Suite or similar design tools is beneficial.
  • Japanese language skills are a bonus but not essential.
  • Video editing and photography skills are a plus.
