“It takes no compromise to give people their rights…it takes no money to respect the individual. It takes no political deal to give people freedom. It takes no survey to remove repression.” ― Harvey Milk

Love & Equality is the theme for the annual Tokyo Rainbow Pride parade that goes from May 5th to May 6th. The British Embassy Tokyo, in collaboration with the BCCJ, will hold a booth to show their support for diversity and acceptance of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and queer communities. 2018 marks another year to shake up Japan’s gender and sexuality norms to show the plethora of LBGTQ+ communities that inhabit Tokyo’s 23 wards.

Get involved:

— Make cash donations
— Become a goods sponsor
— Volunteer at the parade
— Just by visting and showing your support for LGBTQ+ rights

Contact the BCCJ team at [email protected] to pledge your support.

Companies and firms are encouraged to recognize all workers equally with no discrimination against their sexual or gender identification. Not having to hide an individual’s identity lowers stress and anxiety, improves their work performance and increases job satisfaction with positive relations between co-workers and supervisors. A well inclusive workplace is a thriving business that promotes positive outlook for diversity and sustainability.

Here at the BCCJ we are committed to advancing Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) in Japan. Since April 2012, the Chamber has been running a D&I programme designed to promote greater understanding of, and develop support mechanisms for, the growth of diverse groups in the workplace in Japan, including:

— Women
— People with Disabilities
— LGBTQ community
— Generation Y / “Millennials”

The BCCJ believes diversity to be vital for the future growth and sustainability of the Japanese and global economy.

This is also a celebration of the late Keith Haring’s 60th birthday, a gay artist and American icon who lived for pushing LGBTQ+ rights and promoting love & equality. The theme for Tokyo Rainbow Pride is based off his advocacy to recognize LGBTQ+ equality and appreciation of what they have to offer. Come to see the diversity Tokyo has to offer and join in on the parade!
