COVID-19: The Leadership Challenge (Mon 16, 1500-1545)
Written by BCCJ
March 16, 2020
Community and Business
The novel coronavirus is not just a health risk: it has now become one of the biggest threats to the global economy as financial markets are demonstrating. Government directives impose increasingly stringent restrictions on personal movements, public events, and business activities. Unfortunately, Japan – a country of high population density and hub of international exchanges – is no exception to this global hit, as the scale of epidemic continues to unfold.
This is a major management and leadership challenge. While many companies have crisis management plans in place, they are being tested now as never before. There are issues around staff health and welfare; around what is best practice with clients; around the practicalities of remote working; and of dealing with issues locally in global operations. Everyone is having to adapt and deal with this rapidly changing business environment.
On March 16, we will be joined by two of our BCCJ Platinum members, Jonathan Spraggs (Vice President and International Head of Tech at GlaxoSmithKline) and Jeremy Sampson (Managing Director of Japan & Korea at Robert Walters Japan), to discuss the priorities and challenges in dealing with COVID-19 in Japan from a leadership position.
We invite BCCJ members to join the discussion. We don’t have all the answers but by sharing and learning, the BCCJ hopes to help our members establish best practice in these difficult times.
