BCCJ Meets With Secretary of State for Work and Pensions

On Thursday, April 22, members of the BCCJ met with the Rt Hon Mel Stride MP, Secretary of State for Work and Pensions during his visit to Japan for the G7 Summit.

During the 90-minute roundtable discussion, the Rt Hon Mel Stride shared details of his experience in his role as Secretary of State for Work and Pensions since being appointed on October 25, 2022. He took members through his team’s current key priorities, which are largely focused around initiatives to support the UK’s post-pandemic labour market.

Participants exchanged views on the current state of the labour markets in Japan and the UK, and issues concerning the two nations’ ageing societies and gender and disability inclusion in the workplace.
