Since our sofas became the buzziest nightspot in town, the BCCJ decided to host its first-ever online pub quiz on Tuesday (May 12).

Recognising a need to feed one of the great British pastimes and connect with friends and colleagues, we were delighted to welcome 62 participants in 4 different time zones, 14 teams and all in the spirit of charity. We could not be more delighted to announce that JPY191500 has been raised for NHS Charities Together and YouMeWe. We wouldn’t be as cruel to close the donations page quite yet, so if you fancy adding to the pot, we are gratefully still accepting donations via this page.

It wouldn’t be a pub quiz without prizes. With that, we would like to offer our thanks to the generous support of our prize sponsors, AP AdvisersBerry Bros and RuddBrewDogCottage Davis YakushimaFever TreeKilchomanWhisk-e Ltd.  Please do click on the above links to explore the great range of products and services each sponsor has to offer.

We would like to extend our special thanks to our quizmaster for the night, Nick Rees, for not only being a fantastic host, but also for keeping law and order in the main room. And also, to our fantastic volunteers, Laney and Sumin for offering up their time, energy and enthusiasm to keep things ticking.

WINNERS

Congratulations EY Japan for conquering (by a healthy margin) our first ever online quiz, and becoming the team to beat. Also, a big well done to our prize winners ‘YouMeWe/KIWL Michelin Star’, ‘The Quarantinis’, ‘Nerd Immunity’, ‘How much do the teachers know?’.

The remaining teams were within 7 points of each other, in what I think you would agree was a hotly contested competition.

For those who joined, those who nearly did, and those who plainly didn’t, we hope to see you next time for another round of social quiztancing. Once a sense of normality returns, we also recommend keeping an eye out for an upcoming pub quiz hosted by Knight in White Lycra. Information will be posted online here.
