The BCCJ in collaboration with Fabric invites you to join us at the Fabric office for the 2nd in a series of engaging workshops aimed at exploring innovative approaches to sustainability. Whether you’re a seasoned sustainability professional or just starting your journey, these workshops offer valuable insights and practical tools to drive positive change.

Each workshop will offer attendees a unique perspective on sustainability, fostering creativity and practical understanding. Participants are encouraged to engage actively during the interactive sessions to maximise learning outcomes. Networking prior and post each workshop provides opportunities for further discussion and collaboration.

 

Workshop 2: Re-designing sustainable futures

In this workshop, we will dive into Design Thinking tools and approaches that inspire creativity and unlock innovative ideas, focusing collaboration on the intersection of the future and sustainability. Workshop participants will receive practical tips and instructions on the benefits and methodology behind taking a design-led approach to solve complex problems, followed by exploring creative reframing techniques in response to a live sustainability challenge.

 

SPEAKERS

Rebekah Cheng

Rebekah is a Lead Strategic Designer at Fabric, driving client relationships and supporting our interdisciplinary teams.

Previously Rebekah was based out of Miyagi prefecture at DIY furniture brand Ishinomaki Laboratory, managing international sales, social media communications, designer collaborations, and the brand’s sustainable Made in Local initiative.

Rebekah has taught Japanese high school students through a project-based civic learning and urban planning curriculum(Y-PLAN) as an instructor at the Center for Cities+Schools at the University of California, Berkeley, as well as engaged in intensive volunteer work in Athens, Greece with Project Elea, a non-profit promoting the empowerment and social integration of refugees at Eleonas Refugee Camp.

Business, design, or relationships – Rebekah values authenticity and empathy, as well as creating an environment where all feel welcomed.

 

Kumiko Michishita

Kumiko is a Senior Visual Designer at Fabric with a strong belief in the power of visual communication, and a passion for supporting businesses and brands that strive to make positive changes in the world, particularly in environmental and sustainability fields.

Kumiko has a diverse range of experience with a focus on visual identity, having supported multiple Japanese startups as they developed their brand communications. Kumiko was also an Art Director at Japanese tableware business KINTO, where she guided their brand renewal to meet their expanding market.

Kumiko originally graduated from Monash University with an Honours degree in Design and Visual Communication, and spent her early career working across various design studios in Tokyo and Melbourne, Australia. Kumiko is also a registered volunteer for Service Grant, providing design support such as catalog design and creative direction for websites for NGOs.

 

Dr. Stefanie Di Russo

Stefanie is a Strategic Design Director at Fabric, drawing on 12 years of experience in solving complex business problems using a design-led approach. Over the course of her career, Stefanie has worked at the intersection of design, business, brand, strategy, tech, and human behavior. Prior to joining Fabric, Stefanie was responsible for leading organizational transformation on design thinking capability for 7-Eleven Australia; building, empowering and applying design practice to ignite enterprise innovation. Stefanie’s career has also enabled her to work for companies such as NAB (Head of Consumer Experience Design) and Deloitte (Design Strategy), as well as in the banking & finance, telco, government, retail and utilities sectors. Stefanie is an expert in the field of design thinking, holding a Doctor of Philosophy focusing on design thinking in complex practice. Stefanie also holds a Masters in Sustainable Design and is an alumna of the Stanford Executive Program. She has a passion for education and has spent the last 8 years teaching into undergraduate and masters courses in design, brand & CX, product, strategy, entrepreneurship and innovation across various universities in Australia.
