The bushfire crisis continues to devastate communities across Australia. Thousands of homes have been destroyed, an estimated 10 million hectares (100,000 sq km or 15.6 million acres) of bush, forest and parks across Australia has burned, hundreds of millions of animals have perished, and a reported 28 people have so far been killed – including four firefighters.
BCCJ members and friends have asked what we can do to help those affected by this tragedy. That’s why we are pledging solidarity, working with our colleagues at the Australia New Zealand Chamber of Commerce in Japan (ANZCCJ), to provide you with the following information.
From the ANZCCJ
Australia is facing an unprecedented national crisis; lives have been lost, homes have been destroyed, millions of animals – native Australian fauna, livestock and pets have died, communities and businesses have perished. Fires continue to burn and South Australia, NSW, ACT and Victoria are facing catastrophic conditions this weekend. There are no doubt many ANZCCJ members and friends who have been affected by the fires and we sincerely hope that the situation improves quickly.
