Established in 2013 in Tokyo, Swan & Lion is owned and operated by Ian Gibbins, a British born lawyer who worked for many years in the film business. Swan & Lion takes classic British cooking and adds modern, fresh flavours accumulated by the owner and his team from their food and travel adventures.

Gibbins’ very first products were traditional chutneys, onion jam, piccalilli, relish and marmalade. Only the best seasonal fruits and vegetables are selected, and all products are prepared using traditional cooking methods with no artificial colourings, preservatives or additives. The latest delicious additions to the diverse line-up of jarred products are an all natural lemon curd and a brandy butter using Hokkaido butter.

Gibbins began by selling the preserves at weekend farmers markets around Tokyo and soon realised there was a demand for quality British food from both Japanese and foreigners. In response Gibbins expanded the Swan & Lion range to include freshly baked cakes, sweet pies, gourmet meat pies and a classic cold pork pie. Swan & Lion also produces a highly popular Christmas pudding which sells out every year.

Always looking for new classic British recipes to add the Swan & Lion selection, Gibbins welcomes suggestions from customers. And if you are craving for something in particular from home, let him know!

Swan & Lion recently opened its first shop in Kudanminami, Chiyodaku, a takeout deli and bakery offering a large range of homemade baked products, daily lunch specials, the Swan & Lion range and a selection of classic brand British food products, such as HP Sauce, PG Tips, and of course Marmite.

The online shop was just launched through the Swan & Lion website (www.swanandlion.com), offering jarred products and Christmas puddings. The range of products will be expanded continually over the coming months.

Swan & Lion also offer private event catering and work together with a range of clients, including BCCJ member Berry Bros & Rudd wine merchants. The delivery of traditional British Christmas dinners has proved to be a great success among clients in the run up to Christmas. The company continues to grow.
