We are delighted to welcome Japanese Lunch as the newest Entrepreneur member of the BCCJ!

‘So, what is Japanese Lunch? A catering company?’

Japanese Lunch was established in 1989 to teach Japanese language and culture to busy foreign professionals working on assignments in the greater Tokyo area. The school’s primary philosophy is to make lessons interesting, practical and relevant to everyday life and work. This, along with the school’s psychological support programme, makes language acquisition efficient and helps boost learner motivation.

For twelve years, founder and president of the company Hitomi Hirayama wrote a monthly column in the Japan News (formerly The Daily Yomiuri)’s Language Lab, offering readers a 5-minute lesson in useful Japanese vocabulary, expressions and grammar. Through its clear, funny real-life examples, the column became a staple of Japanese learners all over the world. Hirayama also published a book on how to learn Japanese most efficiently, Breakthrough Japanese (Kodansha International). Humourous examples from the column and the book feature in the school’s textbooks and custom materials.

Instructors at Japanese Lunch are selected for their teaching experience, skills and – above all – their enthusiasm to teach Japanese.

In addition to regular language courses which cater to beginners as well as advanced students, the school offers “Japanese Business Protocol Course”. This course is designed for foreign professionals to gain a deeper understanding of the cultural gaps they may often feel when doing business in Japan, and to learn business etiquette. “Culture courses” are also popular choices, covering topics such as cooking and crafts. Short-term courses (30 minutes) prove useful for foreign visitors to Japan.

Hirayama says: “Japanese is said to be a language difficult to master. Some people even call ot “a devilish language”. Japanese Lunch provides explanations in an easy-to-understand format, and provides lots of practical exercises, which make the classroom useable in the real world in a fairly short time. Japanese Lunch is honored to be a member of the BCCJ and we look forward to an opportunity to help BCCJ members communicate in Japanese.
