More than 200 guests celebrated 450 years since the birth of Britain’s most recognisable cultural icon, William Shakespeare, at Conrad Tokyo last night.

The Midsummer Night’s Dream event was hosted by the BCCJ, Tokyo Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Japan British Society and supported by the RSA Japan Fellow’s Network and VisitBritain.

Vikki Heywood CBE, chairman of the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA) sent a welcome message to guests ahead of the evening.

Guests had plenty of opportunities to network and catch up with familiar faces. There was also a splendid Elizabethan-style buffet, prepared by the Conrad’s executive chef Jose Sanchez and team, with dishes including mince meat & liver pies, cherry and rose soup, and poor knight’s pudding. Union Jack bread and a manuscript cake were other highlights.

There were several prize draws throughout the night with lucky winners taking home some sought-after entertainment tickets, hotel vouchers and more.
