This week, the British Chamber of Commerce in Japan (BCCJ), alongside the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan (ACCJ), the Australian and New Zealand Chamber of Commerce in Japan (ANZCCJ), and the European Business Council (EBC) released a joint statement expressing our ongoing concerns surrounding the current re-entry restrictions in place by Japan’s immigration authorities of non-Japanese nationals residing in Japan during the COVID-19 crisis.

Despite some recent changes made to help enable the eventual return to Japan for foreigners who left prior to any bans being put in place, (re-)entry is still denied to foreigners from 146 countries and territories. We request that the current entry policies be changed to allow the re-entry of foreign residents to Japan based on the same public health protocols as Japanese nationals.
