On the evening of June 8th, the BCCJ and ACCJ held a joint women’s networking event at the Ark Hills Café for a friendly evening of productive exchange, networking, good food and wine.

This joint event gave Tokyo’s business women the opportunity to introduce themselves and their business to like-minded women, whom they might otherwise not have had the opportunity to meet.

Professional women from various industries exchanged business building ideas, giving access to new resources, inspiration and empowerment. The opportunity for deeper, qualitative conversation and time for more detailed conversations was enjoyed by all participants.

For those members who ask, “Why do we need women’s networking events in this day and age?”, we would like to highlight that women are unfortunately considerably under-represented at BCCJ events and recently specifically requested a BCCJ women’s network.

As the World Economic Forum has pointed out, a gender pay gap persists across the globe and women are still not present in equal numbers in business or politics. The BCCJ actively supports the goals of the Japanese government to encourage more women into the labour force to help increase Japan’s growth potential.

Our organisation would like to encourage all members to step up and to take action to help drive gender equality, and to celebrate the achievements of women who work to overcome these barriers. We hope very much that our women’s networking events will contribute to more empowerment and positive change both at the BCCJ and in society as a whole.
