Japanese tourism statistics and trends

According to the Japan National Tourist Organisation (JNTO), the number of international visitors to Japan in March 2013 was 857,000 (a 26.3% increase from March 2012). This is the highest March figure in history – and the second highest number ever, following July 2010 before the Great East Japan Earthquake (878,582). 

The JNTO announced that the estimated number of Japanese overseas travellers in February 2013 was 1,430,6393 (a 9.3% decrease from February 2012), and 1,652,000 in March 2013 (-4.9%). The outbound figure dropped over the same month of the previous year for two straight months.
